I am currently in my second term as a North Hills Community Outreach Board member. It’s a great organization with an outstanding staff! Fay Morgan, the ED, as well as the staff and volunteers, make sure that our mission is continued. Our mission is to make sure no one is cold, hungry, or forgotten. We continue to serve thousands of families experiencing hardships on a daily basis. Many are not aware that NHCO was founded as a direct result of the devastating flood in Etna in 1987. It’s hard to believe that same hardship was repeated with Ivan and Katrina. Over the past 20 years, (We just celebrated our 20th year in existence!) NHCO has grown and expanded their mission to include many different outreach programs.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... Many ways. We completed a recent major capital campaign to expand the facilities in Millvale to better serve the surrounding communties. We helped thousands of families and businesses that fell victim to the Hurricane Ivan and Katrina Flooding.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... All the people who work or volunteer for this great organization give of their hearts and proudly serve the mission!
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Awesome!!
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Expand their services in other cities and states!!
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... If I had more time and could retire from my career! I’d love to give more of my time.
- If I ran this organization, I would... do exactly what they are doing! (Just probably not as well!)
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... The need to raise money to meet the needs of the people (carry out our mission), while still having funds to cover their operating budget.
- One thing I'd also say is that... Fay and her staff do an awesome job! As a small business owner, I observe quietly how an organization operates. I notice the strengths and weaknesses and try to learn from them. NHCO has accomplished a great deal in a very short period of time and their growth has happened efficiently and systematically.
