This organization has a very worthwhile mission, that is often overlooked. While extreme home makeover and similar shows have thrust home renovations of families in need into the limelight, often this work goes unrecognized. The staff is delightful, and the work they do is spirit lifting.

The Great!
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Very friendly, helpful and dedicated to their work.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Build many more houses for those in our region in need.
Ways to make it better!
  • If I ran this organization, I would... Move the offices to somewhere more visible and central.

MY ROLE:
I was a General Member of the Public & I helped them with an internal project

I met with Anne Hawkins, the Chief Development Director and Maureen Joyce, the Development Web Administrator to get their profile up here on the GNP website. The first thing that struck me was the size of the building. It shouldn't have been surprising, considering the large volume of goods they handle. Through the meeting, I was impressed with the degree of information they had memorized about the organization and its metrics. The level of professionalism, quality and expertise I saw at this organization was very high.

The Great!
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... The level of professionalism and efficiency of the organization.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... highly capable, technologically savvy and dedicated.
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... I would have had time to tour the warehouse
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... navigating a corporate climate that is donating way fewer items than before.

I met Dave Coplan when I talked with him about increasing the effectiveness of his GNP profile. He was an intelligent, engaging, highly capable, dedicated individual that deeply cares for HSCC and the well being of the people of Turtle Creek and the Mon Valley. Congratulations on making 40 under 40 Dave!

The Computer Clubhouse was an amazing project that I saw come to being when I was working in East Liberty. Bringing truly quality technology to underserved neighborhoods is not a new concept. However, also bringing people and programming that took full advantage of the technology and expanded participants skills and horizons is. Kudos, 3RC!

The Great!
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Make, staff and run computer clubhouses all across the Pittsburgh region.
Ways to make it better!
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... Dedicated funding for technology projects in the post dotcom bubble era.

Coro has been an amazing journey, and I am only a fifth of the way through it. While experiences within it may be frustrating and the time commitment is heavy, it is all to make me a better leader.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... ...my personal and professional development over the past two months, and the transformation and caliber of past fellows.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Intelligent, hard working individuals that were dedicated to the mission and programs of the organization.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... ... give a stipend to all of the participants, thereby enabling it to draw from a larger pool of applicants
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... Dev Albarelli was still there
