I was a Board Member & I joined as a founding member of the the Advisory Board, and moved to the Office of Secretary on the Board of Directors.
Post public compliment
The ToonSeum is just getting started, but has already made its mark on the area. We're in the process of building our board and becoming a full non-profit. We're currently housed within the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, and are planning off-site exhibits. We're the Pittsburgh branch of Dr. Sketchy's Anti Art School, and our first event attracted a lot of local attention. In the first week of December, we had our first full Board meeting, led by our President Rob Rogers. So far, he seems to be a benevolent dictator.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... the reaction of the crowds at our grand opening, and the attendance at the first Dr Sketchy school night.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... meeting people other than cartoonists who share a passion for all of the cartoon arts.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... enthusiastic, supportive and friendly. I have already learned a lot from this diverse group.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... become a major destination on Pittsburgh's North Side, complementing the Children's Museum, the Carnegie Science Center, the National Aviary and the Andy Warhol Museum.
Ways to make it better!
- If I ran this organization, I would... need an extra 24 hours in each day!
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... finding a Treasurer and someone experienced in the Development world to round out our Board of Directors, achieve non-profit status and raise funding.
- One thing I'd also say is that... the Children's Museum is a very gracious host.
The ToonSeum is a new gallery within the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh. The are just starting the non-profit process with the hopes of opening a seperate museum of cartoon art in Pittsburgh.
The gallery they have now is small but they have a great enthusiasm for the cartoon arts. They feature original cartoon art on display. It would be great to have a full museum in Pittsburgh dedicated to one of the world's most popular art forms, cartooning.
They have a great board with many well known cartoonists and business owners.
They could use a lot of help to get things off the ground and I know donations, volunteers and services are all needed.
Check out the gallery to get a glimpse of their vision for their future museum.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... Children and adults alike share a passion for the art. They make an effort to display art across the generations. Its all authentic and original cartoon art!
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... Kids and parent and grandparents sharing their memories about the cartoons they grew up with.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Open a full hands on museum dedicated to cartoon arts!
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... The gallery were larger.
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... Fundraising, but isnt that always the case?
- One thing I'd also say is that... be sure to visit them sometime at the ToonSeum Gallery at Children's Museum of Pittsburgh
