If someone proposed to fill Yosemite Valley with water because it is needed to solve a water crisis in California, what would you do? While it seems inconceivable today, less than 100 years ago it happened; not to Yosemite Valley but to its twin in Yosemite National Park, Hetch Hetchy Valley. San Francisco needed water, Congress approved and today there is a reservoir where there should be a verdant valley for all of us to enjoy. When I heard that there was an effort to restore this beautiful place and still be able to supply San Francisco with its needed water I felt compelled to join for several reasons. Like many others, I recognize that we cannot continue to rape our land because it is expedient. I do not believe a community should be able to “own” and profit from land that is owned by all of us. This is particularly true for our National Parks. Most importantly, I believe that in a world that seems to be spinning out of control we can provide a highly visible symbol, a beacon of hope, that our mistakes of the past do not have to become models for our future. We can create a miracle. We can create a second Yosemite Valley

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

an increasing public awareness of the issues involved: feasibility studies, new books and a Pulitzer Prize for a series of articles in the "Sacramento Bee"

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

probably not do as good a job as is being done.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the professional expertise and dedication Board Members and advisors have brought to this effort

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

professional at all times and always ready to help.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

work a miracle or two!

Ways to make it better...

we could triple the number of public officials who would make this a priority.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

changing the political climate in San Francisco. Many officials have chosen to ignore the feasibility studies showing that restoring Hetch Hetchy Valley can be done and San Francisco can still have its water.

One thing I'd also say is that...

San Francisco should be the biggest supporter of this effort. While I admire Senator Diane Feinstein, she is simply wrong to claim that Hetch Hetchy is San Francisco's birthright. This Valley belongs to all of us.
