I was a Volunteer & personally, evaluated two homes, helped build a deck in Lawrenceville last year, and coordinated the efforts of our ASHI chapter.

As the President of the Pittsburgh Regional Chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors, my chapter members and I have had the privledge of working with Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh performing property assessments to help determine a candidate properties suitability for the program and it's critical repair needs.
Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh is a highly motivated, organized and dedicated group, working to improve the lives not only of it's clients, but to help entire neighborhoods improve their quality of life.
If this group has a weakness, I have yet to find it. Their organizational skills are excellent; our people always know what needs to be done and by when. Further, my members receive ample praise and know how much their efforts are valued by Rebuilding Together. As a result my members are eager to help, and be a part of this terrific program.
Our combined efforts with Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh, have created a pilot program for the coordinated efforts of our two organizations, Rebuilding Together and the American Society of Home Inspectors, and is being developed and distributed nationwide. This will enable members of both groups nationally to work together to ensure the best value and use for the dollar.
I cannot say enough of my high esteem for this organization, it's members, leadership and it's help to the community, both in terms of value, and compassion.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... The faces of the people it helps, and the volunteers who help them. If working with this organization doesn't give you an astounding sense of accomplishment and a warm fuzzy feeling, check your pulse.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... Among many things, the ability to see directly how our / my efforts have helped people.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Well organized, motivated, caring, hard working, goal oriented. The kind of group that makes you want to belong.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Make this a better city and region for all who live here.
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... It hadn't rained while we were building that deck!!!
- If I ran this organization, I would... Be proud of what it has accomplished!!
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... Educating the public and officials on the need and importance of this mission.
- One thing I'd also say is that... With the aging population, and the strain on Medicare / Medicaid, this program will only become more important to the vitality of the region and the economy.
I was a Donor & I was Ann's boss who gave her the encouragement to start Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh.

Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh was started by a wonderful person named Ann Billak who died of breast cancer on July 15, 2004 at the age of 45. Every time I think of Rebuilding Together, I think of Ann. God has a plan for everyone and God's plan for Ann was to start Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh. When Ann completed her assignmnet, God declared that her work here on earth was done and he called her to her heavenly home.

The best part of volunteering for Rebulding Together Pittsburgh is knowing that I have helped low income and disabled homeowners to continue to live in their cherished homes, safe, secure, and warm. RTP has consistently leveraged very limited donated funds, materials, and labor to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of free home repairs to homeowners who could not otherwise afford to have the work done.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... the faces of the homeowners when they see the impact of 50 volunteers working to improve their homes.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... the opportunity to help others in need.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... hard-working, dedicated and very professional.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... rebuild Pittsburgh one house at a time.
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... I had more time to do more.
- If I ran this organization, I would... seek more sources of funding.
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... name recognition within the community. But we're working on it.
- One thing I'd also say is that... This is a non-profit that is making a big difference in people's lives.
I was a General Member of the Public & I helped them with an internal project

This organization has a very worthwhile mission, that is often overlooked. While extreme home makeover and similar shows have thrust home renovations of families in need into the limelight, often this work goes unrecognized. The staff is delightful, and the work they do is spirit lifting.
The Great!
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Very friendly, helpful and dedicated to their work.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Build many more houses for those in our region in need.
Ways to make it better!
- If I ran this organization, I would... Move the offices to somewhere more visible and central.

This is a great organization that is filling an increasing need for the Pittsburgh region's aging population. Staff are extremely committed to their mission and make the most of their resources. That they work with 1000 volunteers every year is phenomenal.

- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... friendly and warm
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Fill this need more completely.

As a volunteer and member of the Board of Directors of Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh, my greatest moment is reviewing the renovation work performed by our volunteers with the homeowners. Seeing the tears of joy and gratitude of the homeowner is something words cannot explain. I know this is what keeps me going every day at the age of 75. RTP's services will help eldelry homeowners live in a healthier home environment.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... the eyes of some of the regions oldest and poorest citizens after Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh and its volunteers completed work in their homes.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... All the volunteers, staff and Board are wonderful and there is nothing like realizing you may have saved a life of a poor homeowner.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... The best in the region.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... ensure that all seniors could live in a warm, safe and dry home environment.
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... RTP had more funds available to help everyone that applies for services
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... funds to complete the repairs and especially to provide new roofs for those citizens without.
