Someone who had 3 hours of volunteer time could: help with the upkeep of our grounds and maintenance of facilities; assist with administrative work; train to become a sanctuary tour guide
Geographic areas served: Physical wolf sanctuary located in Tenino, WA. Our resident wolves are rescued from throughout the U.S.
Mission:
To conserve and protect wolves and their habitat.
Results:
Over 160 displaced, captive-born wolves rescued.
Member of Washington Wolf Working Group. that met for five years to negotiate a wolf recovery & mgmt. plan. Result: WA state passed its first Wolf Management Plan in November 2011.
Red wolf pups have been born here.
WHI is one of only three pre-release facilities for the Mexican gray wolf in the entire U.S.
We're hosting the annual Mexican gray Species Survival Plan conference at Wolf Haven Intl. in 2012.
Five litters of Mexican gray pups have been born here.
Some of the first Mexican wolves released back into the wild (after a 70 year absence) were born at Wolf Haven Intl.
We transferred six of our Mexican gray wolves to Mexico to support that country's SSP program.

The Pacific NW is a great place to observe wildlife in nature, but many of the most interesting are shy, endangered, or hang out in remote places. Wolves qualify on all counts, which makes visiting Wolf Haven, just south of Olympia (Washington's state capital), a fascinating experience. The ...

Wolf Haven is an awesome place not only to learn about the wolves but also conservation in general. They have a prarie with mima mounds endangered local plant life and endangered pocket gophers.
