Mission
The mission of West Valley Community Services (formerly Cupertino Community Services) is to encourage the sharing of community resources; to provide basic human needs in a caring and dignified environment; and to provide opportunities for volunteers to participate in West Valley Community Services’ activities.
Key Facts
Geographic areas served:
Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga, West San Jose and the unincorporated mountain regions
Target demographics:
Low-income, underserved individuals, children and families residing in Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga, West San Jose and the unincorporated mountain regions.
Results to date:
Founded in 1973, West Valley Community Services (WVCS) has been providing direct assistance and referral services to the west valley communities of Santa Clara County for over 35 years. WVCS provides a continuum of basic needs, family support services and housing services including: information and referrals, food pantry, clothing, rotating shelter, transitional housing, affordable housing, financial assistance, and case management services to more than 5,000 individuals and families every year.
Direct beneficiaries per year: More than 5,000 individuals and families
Indirect beneficiaries per year: West Valley residents and their communities
Obstacles:
The weak economy, high mortgage and rent expenses, steeply rising food, utility and gas costs have caused a more than 20% rise in clients over 2007. For individuals and families already struggling (some due to job layoff or home foreclosure), higher food and gas prices simply stretch budgets even more, and cause increasing requests for basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, emergency financial aid, housing assistance and family support services from West Valley Community Services.
What your donation will allow us to do:
This year more than ever before, with an over 20% rise in the number of clients requesting food and other assistance from West Valley Community Services, we need your generous support so we can continue to:
• Provide emergency assistance in the form of food, clothing, shelter and financial aid
• Provide rotating shelter, transitional housing, and low-income housing assistance
• Provide family support programs and resources, referrals and case management
• Provide clothing, school supplies and holiday gifts for children
Your donation of $50.00 enables us to:
provide a child with new shoes and school supplies for the school year.
Your donation of $100.00 enables us to:
support a homeless person for a week with shelter, food and intensive case management.
Your donation of $300.00 enables us to:
provide one month of housing and support services for a single mother and her child in transitional housing.
