The regeneration project has done an amazing job of advocacy within the faith community. Each event I have been to I have learned more, and have become more involved.    more

Mission

The mission of The Regeneration Project is to deepen the connection between ecology and faith. Our Interfaith Power and Light campaign is mobilizing a religious response to global warming in congregations through the promotion of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and conservation.

Key Facts

Geographic areas served:

28 states | visit our website to find an IPL campaign in your state

Target demographics:

Religious congregations. We are working to establish Interfaith Power & Light campaigns in every state.

Results to date:

Global warming is one of the biggest threats facing humanity today. The very existence of life—life that religious people are called to protect—is jeopardized by our continued dependency on fossil fuels for energy. Every mainstream religion has a mandate to care for creation. We were given natural resources to sustain us, but we were also given the responsibility to act as good stewards and preserve life for future generations.

We focus on tangible results in congregations—putting our faith into action. This work includes educating congregations and helping them buy energy efficient lights and appliances, providing energy audits and implementing the recommendations, encouraging people to buy more fuel efficient vehicles and to drive less, supporting renewable energy development through “greentags,” working on large-scale renewable energy installation projects such as rooftop solar and advocating for sensible energy and global warming policy.

Key Staff

The Rev. Sally Bingham, President and Founder

Sally has brought widespread attention to the link between religious faith and the environment through her work on The Regeneration Project and the Interfaith Power and Light campaign. As on of the first faith leaders to fully recognize global warming as a core moral issue, she has mobilized thousands of religious people to put their faith into action through energy stewardship. Sally serves as the Environmental Minister at Grace Episcopal Cathedral and chairs the Commission on the Environment for the Diocese of California. She is pictured here with her dog, Obi.

Susan Stephenson, Executive Director

Susan oversees The Regeneration Project and its Interfaith Power and Light campaign. Susan has over twelve years experience developing and implementing issue-advocacy and electoral campaigns for environmental and other public interest organizations. Prior to joining The Regeneration Project, she served as vice president of the Oakland-based campaign consulting firm The Next Generation. Beginning in 1999, she organized and coordinated the California Global Warming Campaign, which implemented a proactive strategy resulting in several landmark legislative victories. She has been involved with California Interfaith Power and Light since its inception in 2000. Susan received a B.A. in English Literature from the University of North Carolina.

Bill Bradlee, State Affiliates Coordinator

Bill joined The Regeneration Project (TRP) as State Affiliates Coordinator in July of 2008. He served as TRP’s Managing Director from July 2004 until March 2007. He brings with him more than 15 years experience in the nonprofit world. Bill and a climate scientist spent much of 2007 bicycling across the US giving talks and doing media outreach around global warming. Previously, Bill was the Northwest Regional Manager for the League of Conservation Voters. He completed his Master of Environmental Studies degree at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA.
