Mission
Offering compassionate, faith-based recovery services to mothers and their children.
Key Facts
Geographic areas served:
Western Pennsylvania
Target demographics:
Homeless mothers seeking to overcome addiction and keep their children with them during their recovery. Women must be 18 years of age or older. Priority admission is given to women who are pregnant. We accept women of all faiths from a variety of referring organizations in Western Pennsylvania.
Results to date:
Over the 16 years that Sojourner House has served Western Pennsylvania, we have helped hundreds of women start new lives of sobriety and provide stable homes for their children.
Sojourner House MOMS is a step-up program for recovering women and their families who are homeless. Sojourner House MOMS currently serves six families in Negley Place. In September, 2007, we will add 10 new apartments and bring our total number of families to 16.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Approximately 65 families per year benefit from our two programs.
Indirect beneficiaries per year: Children and non-residential people who benefit from services brings the total to 210 in fiscal year 06/07.
Obstacles:
Our biggest challenges are overcoming the stigma of addiction for women with children and educating the public about the number of people affected by addiction in families.
Reaching individuals in the community with a heart for our mission who will join us in keeping these families together is part of that challenge.
