Someone who had 3 hours of volunteer time could: Volunteer as a dog handler at an adoption event! We can only bring as many dogs as we have handlers, and the more dogs we can bring, the more can find a home!
Geographic areas served: DC Maryland and Virginia
Mission:
The Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation (LDCRF) is a non-profit organization that is actively involved in taking in and finding new, loving homes for at risk cats and dogs. In this process, LDCRF ensures that these companion animals are temperament tested, current on all necessary vaccinations, and either spayed or neutered prior to becoming available for adoption.
Once adopted, LDCRF enters into a contractual relationship with the adoptive family to ensure that the animal is properly cared for, and conducts follow ups to ensure this. LDCRF conducts public adoption events at area Petsmarts on weekends. These events are staffed by volunteers who interview prospective adopters, answer questions about the animals, and take advantage of the opportunity to educate the public on the benefits of spaying and neutering; the need to obtain proper veterinary care; and of providing basic obedience training to their pets.
