Mission
Since 1967, CBF has been the voice of those who care about restoring North America’s largest estuary. Our motto “Save the Bay” has defined that mission to the more than 17 million people who live in the six-state Chesapeake Bay Watershed. CBF is the largest and only independent, Bay-wide organization that exists solely to restore and protect the vitality of the Bay.

Results to date:
In the past year CBF has accomplished the following with the help of our donors, action network, and volunteers.
----Passage of Pennsylvania’s Resource Enhancement Protection Act (REAP), the innovative transferable tax credit program that will help farmers reduce pollution;
----Legislative authorization for revenue bonds in Virginia to “finish the job” upgrading wastewater treatment plants in the Commonwealth;
----Dedicated funding in Maryland to reduce pollution into the Bay from fertilizer, waste, and soil running off our streets and fields;
----The possibility of significant federal investments through the federal Farm Bill to implement agricultural best practices to reduce pollution across the Bay region;
----Broad, bipartisan support, pending a vote, for the No Child Left Inside (NCLI) Act, a reform to the federal No Child Left Behind Act, that was born from a CBF-led coalition of more than 100 organizations and that would strengthen environmental education opportunities for America’s students;
----The defeat of two proposed mega-developments that would have added pollution into our waters and promote sprawling development; and
----A unanimous win in the Virginia Supreme Court guaranteeing CBF’s “standing” to represent our members in clean water related cases.
In addition, we took 40,000 students and adults on environmental field trips and planted thousands of trees and shrubs to filter polluted storm water before it enters our waterways.
