American-Italian Cancer Foundation
Mission:
The American-Italian Cancer Foundation (AICF) supports cancer research, education, and early detection, emphasizing the unique resources of Italy and the United States, recognizing world-class scientific excellence in medicine, and serving the economically disadvantaged and medically underserved in New York City through cancer screening, outreach, and education.
Results:
The International Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship Program provides financial support for the post-doctoral research of promising young scientists who pursue research and advanced training in collaboration with mentors at major cancer centers in the United States and Italy. The Program has funded 331 post-doctoral research fellowships since its inception.
The Pancreatic Cancer Research Initiative (PCRI) funds scientific researchers from the United States, Italy, and other parts of Europe for projects of up to three years in basic, translational, or genetic research as it applies to pancreatic cancer. PCRI grants will fund research that shows great promise for translating knowledge gained to prevention or new treatments and, ultimately, for prolonging and enhancing the life of pancreatic cancer patients.
The Prize for Scientific Excellence in Medicine recognizes scientific researchers who have substantially improved the quality of life of cancer patients and survivors by bringing what they have learned in the laboratory into the clinical setting.
The Mobile Mammography Program provides no-cost breast cancer screening services to economically disadvantaged and medically underserved women in New York City. During the last 20 years, AICF has provided screening services for over 60,000 women.
