I am a first grade teacher in the same area that NGF serves. I have seen firsthand the impact that this organization is making on the community. They are working to help local schools reach struggling students. In addition to the academic support that they provide, they are also giving these students positive experiences. Students at NGF know that they are important and that they can succeed in school. The high school volunteers provide students with positive role models to encourage them to try their very best at school. I feel extremely blessed to be a part of such a phenomenal organization!

I have loved being a part of NGF. The vision of this organization is extraordinary. We are helping children who may not be receiving this help in the classroom. As a teacher, I know what a blessing it is to have outside sources available to all students. That's exactly what NGF does! Not only does NGF offer support for students' academic needs, but also support for the parents who seek and desire to be better equipped to help their children. NGF is doing a great work by meeting needs in Forsyth County.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have seen students make growth in the area of reading through the support of one-on-one or small group tutoring, designed to meet the student where they are.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

provide more trained tutors and a permanent facility which would enable NGF to reach more students.

I have witnessed the rapid expansion of Next Generation Focus with a positive influence on the students, parents and teaching staff. The benefits for the children involved in the program achieved with limited resources shows the impact the program has made.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

observing children gain a stronger understanding of reading and math concepts by attending the tutoring sessions.

see them get to a position where they could have their own building.

I'm Sarah, and I'm the teen president of NGF and a two-year tutor. NGF is the best because it's focused upon helping the under privileged children of our community to grow and learn how to read. I feel like I've made such a difference in these kids' lives, and it is one incredible feeling to know you've helped shape a child and his or her future.

The Great!

The children have grown so much, and it has helped me grow too. I've become better at public speaking and with child care. NGF helped me find a part of me-- the one that wants to teach!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Focus a little more on non-fiction writing because most books we read are fiction.

I have been so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with NGF from the beginning. Seeing the students, as well as the organization itself grow has been amazing. Everything is so well organized and everyone envolved is so positive and generous with their time and skills. I can tell you first hand of countless success stories!

I'm a lead teen volunteer tutor at Next Generation Focus and have been, every Tuesday and Saturday for almost two years now. We tutor in math, reading and music. I rarely miss a day and I don't do it for any sort of school credit or to look good for college, but to help the kids. Over the past two years, I've developed a bond with every single one of my students. Most of them are beautiful children going through difficult times both in school and at home. I'm glad to be the one to help them through it. Watching their scores rise has made me look up to them almost as much as they look up to me. It feels so wonderful to help the community, especially the "Next Generation."

I think when their improvements hit me the most isn't when their scores rise but when they learn to express themselves and become good people. I don't just teach how to do a math problem or how to read a sentence. I teach them how to write a story that expresses the things they keep deep inside and how to play songs on the guitar. I teach them right and wrong and how to succeed in life, not just academically, but personally through good deeds and an optimistic attitude.

If I had to make any changes, I would recruit more tutors and buy more books and supplies for the kids to use, and give us our own building to use.

NGF has been a partner with our church for almost a year. We have been able to watch as the effort to help children catch a picture of hope has grown from a few kids to a bustling lobby of activity, as parents pick-up and drop-off their children. Saturday's have become special.
NGF has
volunteers who are committed to one central idea of helping children in their school work and life. They have caught the NGF vision! These incredible people work a full time job and then give up their Saturday!
NGF leadership has done an excellent job of communicating and living out the vision for helping children. That leadership, along with the outstanding volunteers, means that children in our area will have a chance to experience lives of hope for years to come.

"Attempt something so great that it is doomed to failure lest God be in it" That's something my pastor frequently says to inspire us. NGF is an example of attempting something so great that it is doomed to failure unless the COMMUNITY be in it. We've been fortunate to have so many people help to make NGF a success, from our volunteers (teachers, staff, and teen tutors) to our business sponsors to our individual patrons. It's heart-warming to meet so many caring people within our community. And nothing is better than making a difference in the lives of children! Our SmarterMe programs are making measurable improvements in children's academic progress.

We've made such an impact on our Focus children! Not only have we improved their mechanics and approach to learning, but we've increased their enthusiasm and self-confidence. All the credit goes to our teachers and tutors. They make learning fun! We've had many parents ask us what we do to make children love coming to the SmarterMe tutoring sessions.

We have an ever growing need for more certified teachers, teen tutors, and other volunteers. Our small group setting is a key factor to our success, and as we get more children we need more volunteers.

I have had the privilege of volunteering for NGF for over two years. As a teacher who has been in the teaching profession for five years, I am amazed at the results that this organization achieves by just meeting one time a week with students. I have been volunteering with NGF from the very start of this program. First hand, I have seen the wonderful changes that this program has made in the lives of students both academically as well as socially. For example, I have had many students who enter the program as struggling, unconfident, shy students and within a year of being in the program they flourish academically in the classroom and radiate with confidence.

There are not enough positive words to say about this program. Speaking from the point of view of a teacher in Forsyth County, we are so blessed to have a program that is helping our students master the state standards. This program’s small group, leveled approach in my opinion has helped many struggling students improve greatly on the reading and math CRCT tests.

This year I have started a writing group where 4th and 5th grade students in a small group setting can learn how to develop the craft of writing. Using a structured writing method, these students who started out being very reluctant writers now have a "go-to" method to help them organize their writing and more importantly gives them the confidence to write.

I would love to have more certified teachers volunteer their time to this program.

Next Generation Focus is a non-profit organization created simply from the love and concern of children in need. It is operated and supported by individuals with charitable hearts whose only focus is to meet the needs of children in the community. The recognition of children in need brought about the vision of also helping parents in need who could then, in turn, better support the children from the home base. Not only are the children who are served given the opportunity to be successful, they are also taught the value of teaching and helping others become the best they can be and thus make a lasting contribution to future generations.

It is an honor to be a part of an organization that provides specialized tutoring to children that need that extra boost to succeed in school. Often all that is needed is to give students confidence and learning tools to use in challenging situations. The program is designed to follow the state standards and county objectives while addressing individual needs. I am very impressed with our teen volunteers that give of their time and talents. This program is also a valuable avenue to discover if teaching is the profession that you have been considering. The program is based on building relationships that reap lifetime rewards. The best part of the program is seeing a child smile when you tell them that they are great readers!

To make this program perfect, it would only take more volunteers. I would also like to see funding to make scholorships available for our students and teens!
