I am failiar with many non-profit social service agencies and educational service organizations...this is excellent in its focus on the customer: student, parent, teacher.
Every phase of the development of LinkEd was done in concert with their customers and responded to the needs voiced by the customer for a web- based educational resource service.
They created a very user- friendly home page that enables anyone to access, search and get info/services.
LinkEd founders are creative, energetic, customer driven and cutting edge in both technology and educational programs.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... Ability to connect the customer bases with this technology
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... The openness, energy and sincerity of the senior staff to listen, learn and implement the ideas within LinkEd.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Warm, open, energetic, creative and extraordinarily responsive to outside opinions, ideas and needs.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... GROW!!! It needs to expand its reach throughout NY and then onto other areas. It needs funding for salaries, supplies and space to rent for offices.
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... If they had better funding this could have been open to a wider network
- If I ran this organization, I would... Nothing I can think of.
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... FUNDING!!! Need public and private support to enable this group grow and further enhance their efforts
- One thing I'd also say is that... Everyone who hears of this group thinks it is great and wants to be part of it. The need for this resource type online guide is tremendous!
I was a Board Member & I've helped them plan events and advised them on projects.

LinkEducation is wonderful. They are passionate about pulling together everyone and anyone who is interested in positively affecting the quality of educatation our children receive. The idea of a one stop shopping website for educational resources is brilliant. Then, they take things a step further and gather educators, CBOs, and other services for fun face to face time, creating networking opportunities that benefit everyone. They are innovative, responsive and creative, a joy to work with and support.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... how their website has grown and how more and more people are becoming aware of it as a resource. Recently, I was speaking with the head of New York City Department of Education's Office of Family Engagement thinking I was introducing her to their existence and she told me she'd already heard of it with a bright smile on her face.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... how it's opened my eyes to the wide array of groups that want to make a difference in the education our youth is receiving.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... friendly, fun and passionate about eduation and the work they were doing with LinkEd
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... make a profound difference in how parents, kids and educators utilized the many resources in their communitities. I could see them doing the outreach that teaches people how to engage in education energetically, truly empowering everyone to make a diffeerence.
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... their had been "more" of everything. The focus groups were well run, but I'd've liked it if there were more of them held. We still talk with fondness about the networking events, but they haven't been put on a regular calendar, so I don't know if I've missed any.
- If I ran this organization, I would... really work to promote it from the community angle. So many people aren't accessing the information that exists on the web because they don't have time to look or they don't expect to find what they need even if they were looking. Outreach to libraries, workforce readiness programs, WIC offices and other social services could do a lot to spread the word "offline". They've done a great job in building momentuum on the educator side of things, now it's time to reach out to parents.
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... the Digital Divide and "time". As a web based resource many of the people who could benefit most from the information on their site will never see it. Also, educators and parents don't have the "time" to go looking for new resources, so though it serves them well, they aren't "looking" for a site like this.
- One thing I'd also say is that... keep up the great work! Incredible progress has been made in a short time. The challenge, now as ever, is to keep reaching out so that more and more people realize just how great a resource is out there for them.

The LinkEd model is a simple yet powerfully effective idea, brought to reality by two entrepreneurial stars. It's not just an information resource but it helps its members find and build new, out-of-the box connections in the field of education.
In my role as Director of Teach For America's Social Entrepreneurship initiative, I have often stumbled over the challenge of trying to map the sector and understand different players, ideas and organizations... there are way too many stakeholders out there who are not talking to each other. I see LinkEd as an extremely valuable resource for emerging entrepreneurs as well as established organizations to continually find innovative ideas and partners.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... quickly becoming the go-to hub for all education organizations in New York. In the short time since its launch, almost every single person I have met in this field know of LinkEd. This kind of position and branding can be leveraged by LinkEd to connect stakeholders effectively.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... crazily optmistic, creative entrepreneurs and high-energy people.
Ways to make it better!
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... Moving from being a resource hub to an influential player who can bring disparate organizations to the same table and make them talk.
