I have worked with Jobtrain on the fundraising level for many years and am constantly amazed by both the staff and participants. Each individual's story is unique and Jobtrain provides the education and tools necessary to make significant career strides, ultimately changing one's life.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... person and in the workforce.
Ways to make it better!
  • One thing I'd also say is that... I am happy to be involved with this organization.

JobTrain is a welcoming organization that meets people where they are without judgement and listens to where they want to go with their lives. Through assessment tools and counselors, JobTrain helps prospective trainees figure out what career choice is best and then provides them with the vocational training to get a well paying job. The secret sauce of JobTrain is providing the life skills and vocational training with the right mix of motivation to achieve 80% training completion and job placement rates. The staff is terrific as many of the student testimonials on this site and the JobTrain website attest. As we say at JobTrain, "We help those most in need succeed." JobTrain has been doing an outstanding job serving its clients for over 40 years--it's a great organization with proven results in which to invest!

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... the success of its students turning around their lives and becoming productive members of their family and community.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... Seeing the joy and pride at the graduation ceremonies and hearing the bell ring in the lobby when a student gets a new job.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Talented, helpful, enthusiastic and positive.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Expand its vocational training programs into more areas like car mechanics, more health care professions, various additional construction trades, more information technology professions, etc.
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... I am very fulfilled in my role as a Board member and also teacher at JobTrain.
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... Having sufficient resources to continue to expand our program offerings.
  • One thing I'd also say is that... JobTrain Works!

The best way to experience the transformative power of JobTrain is to attend a graduation ceremony. Come and you will see dozens of folks stunned and thrilled to have completed the first step of the rest of their lives. JobTrain gives folks who have never had a first chance a second chance to enter society, be productive, and have a great life. They have been quietly doing so for decades and it is high time more people learn about this great organization.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... The countless stories of folks who come from disastrous backgrounds only to be "saved" by JobTrain.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... Seeing the difference it makes in people lives.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Dedicated volunteers, graduates who come back and want to give to the organization which changed their lives, ...
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Focus less on the yearly drudgery of raising operating funds and more on expanding programs and reaching more folks that desperately need a hand up.
Ways to make it better!
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... Creating a brand for itself in the Bay Area that leads to more consistent and larger fund-raising.

Adam Weiner is possibly the best teacher I've ever had and Jobtrain is an amazing program. I've never been a part of anything like Jobtrain and I am so grateful to have had such a unique experience. I've learned skills and tricks that no one except someone like Adam could teach. I'm sorry to see Mime's close b/c I wish more young people could have the amazing experience that I've had. I am an autism specialist for SEUHSD assigned to Woodside H.S. I enrolled in the academy to perfect my skills in culinary science in hopes of applying the content to my classroom. I am developing a transition curriculum for ASD students of which CA is part of the offering. Chef Adam's cause is outstanding for my intention. His teaching style is one to be emulated by all certs. His capacity to retrieve highly challenging learners is exemplary! I am taking back to my classroom a full year of coursework i.e. content methodology, strategies, equipment, materials. By the by, I am a full time student who will divide up her enrollment calendar as follows: 3x week July-Aug, 2x week Dec, 7x week summer 2009. I studied at JobTrain--I did general computer classes. I started taking classes around February 2008. I don't know which day.

The Great!
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... the opportunity they give you to study here.
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... I had more teachers and more attention from each teacher--asking if I needed help, etc. The classes are often just you learning by yourself, it would be really helpful if teachers came to work with you more.

I came to JobTain to increase my computer skills so I could be more job marketable. It is such a warm and caring atmosphere. The staff here all seem to be very dedicated and enjoy their jobs. Its services goes beyond the actual computer classes. The have a clothes closet to find clothes for your interviews and a career closet they send you to where they have very high quality clothes to also help for interviews. They have mock interview training. Help with resumes. Life Skills training. Speakers from various companies. I could go on and on. This school is far more that I expected. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants to increase their skills in just about any field. It is all free. What more could you ask.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... I have seen changes in many peoples lives. I have seen growth in the people in the class. People get great jobs. I have made many friends that will continue after training is over. Classmates support each other. The support of each other is so great for some of us this is a hard road.
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... They hired a new receptionist. She is friendly and greets me. When I come in. I am glad because the other receptionist was not friendly and it was very hard to get a hello. I think there should be no smoking in the front of the building. It does not look very inviting when guests come or people driving by. It gives a wrong impression of what really goes on here at JobTrain.

I was dislocated from my job in March, 2008 and was in the real estate/mortgage lending industry. I have had a very hard time trying to transition into a new career. JobTrains has helped gain some much needed skills in order for me to hopefully obtain that. I am in the office skills class and learning how to use Microsoft applications. Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook. I am very pleased with the fact that I also didn't have to pay for these classes out of my own pocket. Being a single mother and out of work, it sometimes can be very difficult to make ends meet but JobTrains has definitely given me the advantage that I need in order to be successful in my career and not have to worry about the financial part. I have recommended JobTrains to two of my former coworkers and my daughter. They have all started going to classes here as well. JOBTRAINS IS WONDERFUL AND A GODSEND!!!!!!

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... some of the people that have graduated from here and got jobs.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... the class that I am taking is helping me learn skills that I would normally have to pay for at any college. It gives me the opportunity to learn new skills to better myself and market myself that is more appealing to the job market.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Always helpful and friendly.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... move into a better building that is bigger
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... so far everything is good. I can't complain.
  • If I ran this organization, I would... have more classes in the evening.
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... finding resources to keep the facility going.
  • One thing I'd also say is that... I like the idea that women with young children can receive daycare here while learning a new trade.
