I was a Client Served & Participated in the school as a parent, helped other parents new to the school learn to advocate for their child
Post public compliment
In 1999 my son was born deaf - we knew nothing about how to begin this journey. From infancy to age 4 we attended a school in Redwood City called JWPSOD (Jean Weingarten Peninsula Oral School for the Deaf) - this educational foundation has been nothing short of a miracle for our family. Our son is now 9, has 2 cochlear implants that enable him to hear, speak perfectly & read up a storm, play piano beautifully, sing (not so well), talk on the cell phone, and hear a whisper - sometimes he just doesn't know when to be quiet :-)
The Great!
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... how they taught our family to be involved in our child's education.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... incredibly smart and dedicated, creative, caring, and patient.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... serve more children and families who have the greatest needs, particularly families with additional challenges, such as more than 1 child who is deaf, a child who is deaf with additional disabilities, a family who earns a lower-than-average income, or doesn't speak English as a first language.
Ways to make it better!
- One thing I'd also say is that... the staff here is incredible and I don't think they realize what am important and valuable impact they make on the lives of families like ours.
