Tom started at Goodwill almost five years ago as a client, and now I’ve worked my way up to Production Supervisor of our San Mateo warehouse. My daily tasks revolve around trying to control chaos!
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... We process so many donations. The craziest day I’ve had so far at Goodwill was during the 2007 holiday season. In one day we received 680 donations. On that day, we filled 15 gaylords with computers, plus three 28-foot trailers with all the rest of the donations.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... Getting to meet so many different people from all walks of life.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... I supervise a team of 14 people – both employees and clients.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... n/a

I was a Client Served & I started out as a client 13 years ago and worked my way up. Now I’m the manager of our As-Is store.

My time at Goodwill has given me an inner peace. I came to Goodwill to get my life back on track. I caused a lot of destruction before I found Goodwill. But my life here is the exact opposite of where I came from. This place is wonderful.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... The help Goodwill gives to clients. Now that I’m a manager I try to mentor my employees the same way I was mentored when I first came to Goodwill. Transitional employees, in particular, come in with a little bit of uncertainty. But I tell them there is hope. I get to help people be productive one day at a time. It is so magical to see people realize their dreams.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... I really like supervising the six clients and employees who work in my store. They are the hardest working crew in the agency. They put forth a tremendous amount of work and innovation to reach our revenue goals.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Several people here at Goodwill have been mentors to me. I especially admire hard workers who have worked their way up into management positions, such as our former president Mary Edington (who started out in the wares department) and our former Director of Community Services David Taylor (who started out working on the docks).

I was a Client Served & I work in Goodwill's warehouse and I'm in their job training program.

When I came to Goodwill in August 2007 I was on parole, homeless, and hardly involved with my two children. I was like a part-time father that wandered in and out of their lives. I did Goodwill's training program while working in the warehouse. Now my finances are in order, I'm off of parole, and I can provide for my sons the right way. I can be a positive role model for them.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... My own life. Working at Goodwill has helped me see that I’m capable of accomplishing anything. I feel motivated to keep striving.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... I like my job a lot because I get to interface with every single department in Production. I especially enjoy the crazy days when we are flooded with donations and we are all moving non-stop. On these days you get to see how everyone works under pressure.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... My boss is best manager I’ve ever had. She’s really understanding and she works side-by-side with us.

I was a Client Served & I graduated from Goodwill’s job training program and now I am a supervisor in the clothing section of the warehouse.

I fled from Bosnia 12 years ago because of the war. I arrived in the United States unable to speak a word of English and needing to support my 3-year-old son. I went through Goodwill’s training program and I’ve stayed working for Goodwill all these years. Now I manage over 70 people.

- I've seen the results of this organization in... The staff here encouraged me to push myself when I was in doubt.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... I have two favorite parts of my job. First, hitting our revenue goals. Second, motivating other staff and clients as they turn there lives around.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... I like getting to know my co-workers from diverse backgrounds. My peers here at the Goodwill are my extended family. I love my job and I would never leave it.

They always have very good prices here, especially during sales. I live in the neighborhood so I stop by now and then which has been very convenient for me.

The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... The things that I can get for low prices here.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... very very friendly. I am not sure if they are paid staff or volunteers, but no matter what they are always so nice.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... expand the job training program for the unemployed. As far as I know there is a lot of great job training, so this is something that could only get better if it touched more people.

- One thing I'd also say is that... I think maybe they should create some kind of senior discount. The Salvation Army has a senior discount which has been nice for me personally.
This is my first time here, and it really is excellent. It has been a terrific experience. I will be coming back.

It's [donating] easy, it's convenient, very helpful. It's a really easy process and the people here are very pleasant. I live in Redwood Shores but I come out this way because the people are so nice.

- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... the convenience and the staff. The staff are great.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... were really pleasant.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... It would be great if we really could reach out to children and the homeless. Something that would really impact the homeless, the less fortunate.

- My experience would have been better if... there's nothing--I think that Goodwill is great.
I'm happy to have somewhere to bring my things. I don't want to waste it--it's nice to have somewhere where someone can use my stuff. *This review was collected during a site visit and entered by GreatNonprofits staff on behalf of the revier

- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... they've always taken my stuff in a quick and easy fashion, and it's nice to know that i'm helping out instead of throwing things away.

I applied for a job and I have been here for seven years. I love all parts of the job, entertaining people, asking people their names. We give them receipts when they drop things off. We organize things on the trailer. My favorite part is organizing the donations. You have to please everyone thought, and sometimes people can be cranky (just kidding!)

- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... Organizing the donations.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... I have been assigned to different stores, so all the employees have different personalities. So how do I begin to answer this (laughing)! Some people are not in the mood to talk, so you cannot blame them.
Ways to make it better!
- One thing I'd also say is that... I have liked working here for so long.
