The American Italian Cancer Foundation (AICF) gave me the great opportunity to join UCSF as postdoctoral student. Since I started my PhD, my dream was to work as scientist in a cutting edge, competitive and high professional environment like the one that I found in the lab of Dr. David Toczyski. I have to thank the AICF to support my project during my first year and reward my exiting discoveries with renewing my fellowship for the second year. This will allow completing my project, which will be important to continue my scientific carrier. Moreover, the AICF staff is highly professional, but at the same time friendly and supportive. I strongly recommend AICF to young Italian scientists that pursue a unique professional experience in the US.

The American Italian Cancer Foundation is a terrific organization that helps young Italian scientists to move in US for early postdoctoral career. Thanks the its financial support, young graduate students have the opportunity to work in stimulating and highly competitive laboratories and under the supervision of great mentors. I think, in my case, receiving the fellowship from AICF was a particular experience: my mentor, Andrea Ventura, has been awarded few years ago by the same fellowship and he made important discoveries thanks to these funds. During these two yeas as AICF fellow, I grew up as scientist, learning how to approach new scientific stimulating questions and making exciting discoveries that hopefully will be helpful in fighting cancer. It is for me a honor to belong to the big family ‘AICF’ and being supported by the generosity of people that believe that funding research is the right way to defeat the biggest disease of our days.

The American-Italian Cancer Foundation has an important role in promoting cancer research.
Their post-doctoral fellowship program allows young motivated investigators to work on the most important and innovative cancer projects across the US. I had the privilege to receive the AICF post-doctoral fellowship. The generous support given to me by the AICF allowed me to develop my ideas and carry out my research project in the great Boston area. Every day, there are many opportunities here for me to exchange ideas and results with a very nice network of excellent scientists.

It is not easy to describe my personal experience with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation. I could use just a word to define it: unique. The AICF Fellowship provided me with the skills necessary to support my research project and allowing me to join in outstanding group at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute providing me the privilege to work and interact with worldwide collegues and an outstanding mentor such as Dr. Anderson. I`m sure that this huge chance will play a crucial role in my scientific career, helping to grow as an independent scientist, and providing an amazing opportunity for my scientific knowledge in cancer. I am deeply grateful to AICF for providing me the tools to achieve my dreams. I hope AICF will continue its outstanding mission in sponsoring young scientists to pursue their project in the United States in order to increase Italy`s scientific potential and competitiveness.

I am having a fantastic experience with The American Italian Cancer Foundation. Thanks to the AICF fellowship, I am being able to carry out my cancer research project as a postdoc at Stanford and I am having the freedom of being fully focused on my work. Furthermore, I have access to new techniques while I am being trained in a top-level environment. The selection process is based on meritocracy and they judge projects on their potential to succeed. I am really grateful to the organization because having been awarded with this fellowship gave me not only confidence in my project and my capabilities, but also gave me enthusiasm, which has helped to get exciting results in finding the role of the protein that I study in protecting against cancer formation. I particularly thank the AICF staff for being supporting, available and understanding of particular needs and issues.
