The Human Services Center Corporation (HSCC, located in Turtle Creek, PA) seeks student interns interested in macro-level organizing related to collaboration and youth issues for its various programs.  There are three respective internships available: one with the McKeesport Collaborative, Mon Valley Providers Council (MVPC), and Youth LIFE (Learning In a Fun Environment) After-School Program respectively.  Information on all of the Human Services Center’s activities and programs can be found on our website at http://www.hscc-mvpc.org.  Links to the aforementioned will be especially helpful.

McKeesport Collaborative duties and learning opportunities will include:
 Staffing and/or planning monthly meetings of the Working Groups: Education and Training, HIV and AIDS, and Housing;
 Assist with planning and implementing our annual fundraising event - the HIV/AIDS Awareness Walk;
 Coordinate World AIDS Day;
 Research and pursue funding opportunities;
 Plan, promote, and recruit youth for annual HIV/AIDS Summer Youth Program.

MVPC duties and learning opportunities will include:
 Staffing monthly meetings of the Working Groups: Employment and Training, Health, Housing, and Youth;
 Publishing quarterly newsletter – The Communicator and a Membership Directory;
 Developing projects of each Working Group as determined by the membership;
 Coordinating Osteoporosis and Vision Screenings throughout the Mon Valley;
 Coordinating a major conference and Super Exposition of services.

Youth LIFE After-School duties and learning opportunities will include:
 Planning events for the Youth LIFE After-School and KOOL Summer Programs;
 Developing activities for youth, preparing proposals, and assisting with the annual report;
 Coordinating guest speakers and special guests for the youth programs;
 Attend monthly meetings of the Woodland Hills School District;
 Organizing seminars for youth and parent participation, including a spring Safety Fair;
 Maintaining relationships with community partners;
 Assist in maintaining government contracts.

A suitable intern will be:
1.  An advanced writer with quality communication skills;
2.  In possession of current Act 33/34 Clearances (for Youth LIFE Program internship);
3.  Self-motivated and eager to demonstrate leadership and initiative;
4.  One who possesses computer skills in Word, Outlook, Power Point, and web searches;
5.  Seeking a degree in social work, public administration, urban studies, or a related field;
6.  Available 20 to 24 hours per week;
7.  One who has a car, or other means of reliable transportation;
8.  Able to commit the longest period of time, preferably September through April/May of the following year, but no less than through December.  No “summer only” placements.

The HSCC offers a proven track record of mentoring student interns who are now in leadership positions with a variety of employers.  Each position interacts considerably with hundreds of professionals at nonprofit agencies, corporate partners, funders, and the public at-large.  Core areas of learning include:  organizing, fundraising; marketing; collaboration; project development, implementation, and management; and additional macro-level skills.  The Youth LIFE Program internship also affords a student with interaction with the consumer/recipient of service.  A modest monthly/semester stipend is provided along with reimbursed expenses and the ability to attend trainings and conferences.
