FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES—Youth Philanthropy Grants
The participants in The Heinz Endowments’ Summer Youth Philanthropy program are pleased to announce eight funding opportunities for youth-serving organizations that will award a total of $200,000 in grants.  This program, now in its fourth year, engages recent high-school graduates as youth grant makers at the Endowments and five partner organizations: the Forbes Funds, North Hills Community Outreach, Pittsburgh Cares, Sarah Heinz House and the United Way of Allegheny County.

Each team of youth examined community issues, identified funding priorities and crafted guidelines for its grant-making program.  The funding opportunities will address such topics as:

• Providing girls with programs that promote a positive body image and improve self-worth;
• Promoting civic engagement through digital media;
• Offering experiential arts education;
• Furnishing support for mentoring;
• Preventing youth violence;
• Providing research to help organizations ensure that their programs attract and engage older youth.

Formal requests for proposals will be available July 11 at http://www.heinz.org. Organizations interested in seeking funds should plan to attend the Youth Philanthropy Information Fair to be held Wednesday, July 16 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Sarah Heinz House on the North Side.  Directions may be found at: http://www.sarahheinzhouse.org/.
